About me
My name is Marie Therese Kane, and I am a Community Environmental Conservation (CEC) Volunteer with the U.S. Peace Corps in Panama.
About the blog
The U.N.’s IPCC tells us that we must limit the global warming caused by climate change to 1.5 degrees Celsius if we are to prevent the most catastrophic climate impacts. This is a reality that connects us all–through the fear that comes from living on a planet that is dying and the possibility of building a different future than the one we’re headed towards. The Earth is what we all have in common.
I leave the U.S. to serve in rural Panama excited to engage in local conservation work while acutely aware of the scope of the climate crisis and the scale of action needed to address it. I hope to use this space to unpack this tension and share my service experience with family and friends. I’m not yet sure what exact shape this platform will take, but thank you for reading!
May 2020 Update:
Due to Peace Corps’ global evacuation of volunteers in March due to COVID-19, I have been sent home one year into my two-year term of service in Panama. While the timing of Peace Corps’ return to Panama remains uncertain, I will continue sharing reflections on life, service, and Panama while living in the U.S.
The contents of this website are mine personally and do not reflect any position of the U.S. Government or the Peace Corps.
